In an effort to keep Louisiana safe, Governor John Bel Edwards has recently issued a Stay-At-Home Order. On April 2nd, this order was extended until April 30th to further combat the spread of COVID-19. The order directs all non-essential business must close in-office personnel functions, including law offices. Your case remains important to us, and at this time our team at Bush Law Firm is working remotely while continuing to provide legal services to our current and prospective clients.

Court Closures and New Orders

The Louisiana Supreme Court has extended court closures across the state giving cases automatic continuances. The following should be noted as of April 6, 2020:

  •  Jury trials have been pushed back to be reset no earlier than May 4.
  • Court business that cannot be resolved online can be handled in person until May 4, but specific measures must be taken to limit access to the courtroom and other spaces with minimum physical contact. Social distancing must be practiced. If possible, matters should be handled via video or teleconferencing.
  • “Speedy trial” computations will not include cases granted automatic continuances by the coronavirus.
  • The filing deadline has changed: “Filings which were or are due to this Court between Thursday, March 12, 2020 through Friday, May 1, 2020 shall be considered timely if filed no later than Monday, May 4, 2020.”

Your Case Is Important

The court closures have resulted in cases being unable to proceed to trial; therefore, a resolution will not occur as quickly. This challenging time or your accident may have also left you unable to work and pay your medical bills leaving you dependent on resolving your personal injury claim.

We understand the need to protect our employees and our clients. We also understand how vital it is that we continue to provide legal services to those who have recently experienced personal injury despite the court being adversely impacted by the spread of COVID-19.

Remaining Diligent and Patient

Having extensive practice in the field, Bush Law Firm’s approach to personal injury cases is to remain focused, diligent, and patient — we will be there with you every step of the way...even if right now it's at a physical distance.
